FULL-TIME CHEESE MAKER
Job Title: Full-Time Cheesemaker
Location: Walston Braehead Farm, Carnwath, ML11 8NF
Salary: dependant on experience
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week including weekends
Reporting to: Head Cheesemaker
We are looking for a passionate and skilled full-time Cheesemaker to join our family dairy. You will be responsible for the day-to-day production of our handcrafted cheeses, ensuring high standards of quality, hygiene, and compliance with our HACCP. This role offers the opportunity to work with multi award winning cheeses, contribute to recipe development, and be part of a business rooted in traditional methods with a focus on continual improvement and food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce a range of cheeses from milk intake through to moulding, salting, and maturing.
Ensure all processes are carried out to defined recipes and production schedules.
Maintain accurate production records for traceability and compliance.
Follow and uphold our HACCP, cleaning, hygiene, and allergen controls. We are SALSA accredited.
Monitor and manage critical control points (CCPs) and ensure deviations are reported and managed appropriately.
Carry out daily cleaning, sanitation, and environmental monitoring duties.
Work closely with the head cheesemaker to prepare for internal and external audits.
Support milk testing, pH measurement, and other basic lab tasks.
Contribute to inventory management (ingredients, cultures, rennet, packaging).
Participate in continuous training and development.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience in cheesemaking or dairy processing or food production is desirable but not essential
Knowledge of cheese maturation and affinage techniques is a plus.
Understanding of food hygiene, HACCP, and SALSA (training can be provided).
Good manual dexterity and physical fitness; able to lift heavy objects and work in chilled environments.
Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and organisation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, committed team.
Comfortable maintaining logs and production documentation.
Desirable:
Level 2 Food Hygiene or equivalent (or willingness to obtain).
Understanding of microbiological risks in raw milk cheese (e.g. STEC, Listeria).
Passion for artisan food and local, sustainable production.

FRONT OF HOUSE
We’re looking for someone friendly, confident and reliable to join our front of house team at Errington’s Barn.
You’ll be welcoming guests, taking orders, serving food and drinks, helping in the kitchen, and generally keeping everything running smoothly. We care about good food and good service, but we don’t do formality — just genuine hospitality and attention to detail.
Experience is helpful but not essential. What matters most is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a calm approach when it’s busy.
Full-time and part-time hours available. Weekend availability preferred.

CHEF / COOK
We’re looking for a cook or chef to join our small team at Errington’s Barn.
Our kitchen focuses on honest, seasonal food made from scratch — including house-baked bread, homegrown produce, and our own farm meats and cheeses. It’s thoughtful, ingredient-led cooking in a calm, supportive environment.
You’ll be involved in preparing and serving our daytime menu, along with occasional evening events and specials. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with fresh, local ingredients and takes pride in simple food done well.
Full-time or part-time hours considered.
