May on the Farm

18 June 2014

It was great as the Spring has been so mild this year we were able to get all the dairy sheep onto grass at the beginning of May, they enjoyed the dry start and Sunshine producing lots of lovely milk!

We lambed the last few Hoggs (year old) sheep), we leave them on their mothers for as long as possible before they get introduced to the parlour in June, by doing it this way when they are weaned they are able to manage with out artificial milk and can enjoy the good grass at this time of year and a special mixture we make up of Barley, Soya and minerals.

At the end of the month we got all our silage in just before the weather broke! it was a bumper crop producing all we need for next winter saving us doing a second cut later in the summer
