My father and I headed down this weekend to Sparkenhoe Farm for the annual SCA farm visit and AGM.
This is the annual get together for cheese makers, cheese suppliers and cheese wholesalers which combines a social get together with visits to other farms and cheese makers and a general catch up on news in the cheese world.
We started off early on Saturday Morning and arrived at Innes Cheese, Tamworth just after 11am where we were shown round their dairy, we found their attention to detail amazing and the beauty of the handcrafted goats cheese inspiring. Every drop of milk was handled so carefully and you could taste it in the cheese the care that had gone into them.
We then went on to Sparkenhoe Farm where we received a lovely lunch of delicious pork pies and Sparkenhoe Red Lecesster cheese and were promptly shown round the farm where we got to see David & Jo Clarkes pedigree Holstein herd, how they manage the farm and stock which was really interesting and gave us ideas/thoughts for bringing home. After the farm walk we had a guided tour of the cheese making facility which again was really impressive.
